Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday hit out at the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged “vote theft”, demanding that the poll body come clean before the public.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi praised her brother and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s resilience, saying he remains unshaken despite political attacks.

“On this ‘vote chori’ issue, they (Election Commission) should tell the truth to the public. Rahul ji kisi hamle se nahi darte, seh lenge sab kuch aur peeche nahi hatenge. Instead of answering his questions, they start talking about affidavits, Nehru ji and Indira ji,” she said.

With the INDIA bloc escalating protests against the ECI over alleged irregularities in Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also sharpened his criticism, describing the alleged electoral malpractice as a “murder of the Constitution.”

“We want to create awareness across the country that votes are being manipulated and stolen. If they sit on the throne by such theft, it harms democracy. This is a murder of the Constitution,” Kharge said.

Earlier in the day, leaders of the INDIA bloc — including Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi — staged a protest outside Parliament, accusing the ECI and the ruling BJP-led NDA of undermining the electoral process.

The demonstrations came after the ECI, in a press conference on Sunday, dismissed the allegations and asked Rahul Gandhi to submit a signed affidavit with proof of his claims of election rigging.
